| Boys and girls, fourth grade and older, may serve as Acolytes at Saint Matthew's. Two dozen boys and girls regularly assist in the leadership of our 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. worship services as Acolytes. At 7:30 a.m. one faithful adult serves as Acolyte in Residence. All Saint Matthew's acolytes know and follow the acolyte motto, "Walk Slowly, Look Holy." Acolytes are trained to assist the clergy during the Sunday services by leading the procession, carrying the cross or a torch, and assisting at the altar. The word acolyte comes from the Greek word "akolouthos" which means a servant, helper, or attendant who waits on another. For more information about becoming an Acolyte, contact the rector.
