| Service on the Altar Guild is a labor of love. Although altar work is primarily an offering to God, the Altar Guild exists to assist the priests and deacons of the parish to prepare and maintain a holy space for worship. The primary responsibility of the Altar Guild is to have ready the holy vessels, linens, and supplies necessary for the celebration of the Holy Communion and for the observance of the other sacraments and rites of the Church.
The Altar Guild usually holds two or three meetings annually -- one to prepare for Holy Week and Easter, one to prepare for Advent and Christmas, and others as necessary. The Altar Guild members serve in teams and are scheduled to assist at a Sunday service about once a month. Members may also serve at special services, like weddings and funerals, as assigned.
To join and be trained in the ministry of the Altar Guild, contact the rector. |
