The Suitcase Project
The Suitcase Project

Amy is 12 years old. She sits on her bed in her room, and the doorbell rings.  She hears adult voices.  She hears her name and goes out to see what is going on, and a strange man and a policeman are talking to her mother.

They tell her to get her things, she will be leaving immediately.  She comes back with what little she has and they put it......in a trash bag.  She is leaving the only home she has ever known, years of fear and pain, going out into an unknown world with her things... in a trash bag.  It’s how it’s done.

But Saint Matthew’s working with Child Protective Services is going help.  Today we begin... The Suitcase Project.  We are collecting items to be given to each child by CPS when he or she is removed from the home, so that that child will not only have something of their own, but they will know that "someone thinks I’m worth it."

Items will be collected in the blue container outside the church each Sunday, and a list of recommended items will be available on the cart outside the church door.  If you have any questions please contact Deacon Sue Youngblood at 899-7386 ext. 19.
