Guide to Holy Week

This year we will be having Holy Week services each day at 6:30 PM.

Thursday and Friday will be Livestreamed and available on our YouTube Channel.

Monday, Taize

6:30 PM - Sanctuary

“Taize” (Ta-zay) is a monastic community in France known for its simple but beautiful music. This service is a contemplative offering that emphasizes the simple beauty of a capella music.

Tuesday, Tenebrae

6:30 PM - Sanctuary

“Tenebrae” means “shadows.” This is an ancient service of light and readings from scripture where candles are gradually snuffed out leaving the congregation in shadow and darkness. It is a haunting and beautiful offering led by lay people.

Wednesday, Stations of the Cross

12:00 PM - Chapel // 6:30 PM - Chapel

The early church remembered Jesus’ death by walking “stations of the cross,” a series of ritual movements that were meant to evoke the experience of a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, walking in Christ’s footsteps in the hours before His death. This service symbolically re-traces that route through Jerusalem as Jesus carries his cross to Golgotha.

We will be engaging with the 14 Stations of the Cross through prayer and silent reflection, through our traditional Chapel icons and icons by artist Janet McKenzie from their book, The Way of the Cross: The Path to New Life.

Maundy Thursday

6:30 PM - Sanctuary, Livestream on YouTube

Maundy Thursday commemorates the “mandatum” or “great commandment” that Jesus gives to the disciples before he leaves them: “Love one another as I have loved you.” The service also commemorates the Last Supper and the institution of the eucharist and features music by our praise band, State of Grace. Optional foot washing will be offered in the courtyard. After Communion, the altar is stripped bare to remember Jesus’ arrest. Participants often find the experience intensely powerful.

Good Friday

12:00 noon - 3:00 pm, Memorial Garden

Our Memorial Garden will be open for a time of reflection and prayer. You are invited to explore our newly created pathway meditation stations with the special addition of icons by artist Janet McKenzie from their book, The Way of the Cross: The Path to New Life.

6:30 PM - Sanctuary, Livestream on YouTube

This service commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus. The liturgy includes John's account of the Passion Gospel, solemn collects, and the veneration of the cross. It is the most solemn and penitential service of the Christian year and, traditionally, the only day on which we do not offer Holy Communion.

Saturday, The Great Vigil of Easter

6:30 PM - Sanctuary

The sadness of Christ's Passion during Holy Week is transformed at the Easter Vigil into rejoicing and celebration. The service begins with the kindling of the new fire in the courtyard, the lighting of the Paschal Candle, and a procession into the church. An ancient piece of music called the “Exsultet” is chanted followed by Scripture readings that recall God’s promise of salvation. Easter is proclaimed for the first time in 40 days. We will celebrate Christ’s resurrection and sing “alleluias!”

Easter Sunday

7:30 AM, 9:00 AM Livestreamed, 11:00 AM Livestreamed

Our regular worship schedule resumes with the addition of a livestream of our 11:00 service (this Sunday only). Parishioners receiving communion will not be shown in the livestream.

Join us at 10:00 for a festive Easter Brunch Coffee Hour and Easter Egg Hunt in our courtyard.
