Harold and June Whitehead

Harold G. Whitehead (February 20, 1931 – July 14, 2016) and June R. Whitehead (June 3, 1932 – June 30, 2006)

Harold was born in Whitinsville Mass and raised in nearby Worcester. After graduating High School, he enlisted in the Navy.  After 4 years in the Navy he returned to Worcester for 2 years before enlisting in the Air Force in 1955.  June was born and raised in the Troy Hill section of Pittsburgh PA.  She attended the University of Pittsburg where she earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Education.  June loved teaching and valued education.  She enjoyed sewing and knitting.  Harold received a Bachelor’s in Arts form the University of Phoenix.  Harold and June were married in November 1958 after meeting at a Square Dance.  Together they had 2 children, Donald and Karen.  A third baby girl was stillborn.  Harold’s career in the Air Force took the family many places, Ohio, Minnesota, Michigan, Maine, Florida, Texas and finally Arizona.  Harold also did tours in Korea and Thailand during the Vietnam war. The family moved to Chandler in 1973 for Harold’s last assignment at Williams AFB before retiring from the Air Force in 1974.  The family joined St Mathew’s in 1973 when the church was still a mission.  June played the organ for several years.  After retirement, Harold worked for a few insurance companies and Maricopa County as a Loss Control Manager.  After fully retiring in 1996, Harold and June continued to dance and traveled extensively in their motor home.
