George Wilmot Brown

January 9, 1939-2015

George Wilmot Brown, loving husband and father, was a member of the St. Matthew's community from 1995 until his passing in 2015.

George was born on January 9, 1939 in Athens, GA. As a child his family moved to various cities across the south, but eventually returned to the farm in Athens of which he always spoke so fondly. He attended Athens High School where he played football and developed a love for math and science. After graduation he matriculated to his dream school, the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, GA. He received both his Bachelors of Science and Masters from Georgia Tech in aeronautical engineering. After working in this field in various positions for both private companies and the government, George developed an interest in computer software engineering and decided to pursue a career in this then-burgeoning field. This career eventually took him to Boston where he met his wife, Shafeeka. They married in 1983 and had two children before leaving for the sunny west coast in 1990, eventually settling in Gilbert, AZ in 1994. He worked for the Intel Corporation for 15 years until his retirement in 2009.

George was a voracious reader, a world traveler and a jazz and classical music lover. He enjoyed cycling, tennis and, before leaving Boston, was an avid sailor. He was a patron of the Phoenix Symphony and had a passion for photography, which grew after his retirement from Intel. George is survived by his wife, Shafeeka, his two children, Nicole and Paul, and two grandchildren, Easton and Leonardo.
