Transgender Day of Remembrance: A Night of Reflection and Hope
Tuesday, November 19, 5:00-7:00 PM, St. James, Tempe
Episcopal Churches across the Valley will gather at St. James Episcopal Church in Tempe to observe Transgender Day of Remembrance on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, from 5:00-7:00 PM.
The evening will begin with a festive reception, Two-Spirited art show, and book signing with Hopi author Jozeppi “Joey” Morelli. Joey is a Transgender queer man who is a retired law enforcement officer/911 World Trade Center First Responder from New York City. In his retirement Joey has found a second career as a Gender Educator.
The candlelight vigil will honor the memory of transgender individuals whose lives were lost to violence against transgender and non-binary people in the United States to date in 2024. The observance, held the night before the global Transgender Day of Remembrance, will include time for reflection, prayers for healing, hope, and justice, and a candle-lighting ceremony to symbolize the light of love and inclusion. All are welcome to attend this meaningful event.
