COME AND SEE
Saint Matthew’s Episcopal Church is a Christian community and a part of the Episcopal Diocese of Arizona, the Episcopal Church, and the worldwide Anglican Communion. Following Christ’s example, we invite you to “come and see” our faith community - where all are welcome, regardless of ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or any of the other “labels” our modern world creates. We are a sacramental and worship-oriented church promoting thoughtful discernment about what God is calling us to do as followers of Christ. We hope you will join us in Growing as God’s Family.

Family & Children | Youth Ministries
Children and youth play a vital role in our congregation and can be found in every corner of our campus and offerings. Children are not only the future of the church; they are the church. Youth and Family & Children’s Ministry at Saint Matthew's are for everyone. We aim to support families, and offer a place where friendships and relationships can be built around a growing relationship with Christ.
Nursery Care
Our nursery in room C-2 is available during our 9:00 and 11:00 AM services for all children, four years old and younger. Infants are welcome.
Changing tables are available in the accessible stall of the men’s and women’s restroom in our sanctuary and parish hall, and in our nursery.

Survey Due February 8
Members who have participated in Saint Matthew’s Deepening Community Sessions over the past year have shared a range of challenges they are facing. The Becoming Beloved Community group is conducting a survey to assess members’ interest in actions Saint Matthew’s could take to address some of these challenges. The survey takes 5 to 10 minutes. You can complete it online or by filling out a paper copy available in the church Narthex - remember to return your survey if you took one home!
February 15 - All Services
On Sunday, February 15, we will Pass The Plate to support the Karl and Virginia Washington, Arizona Chapter of the Union of Black Episcopalians (UBE). The UBE is dedicated to promoting the involvement of Black people in the total life of the Episcopal Church—spiritually, politically, and economically. They work to eradicate racism within the church and society while enhancing the quality of life for all people.
Your generous contributions will support their mission of inclusion, empowerment, and justice. To learn more about their impactful work, visit ube-az.org.
On February 15, all loose cash and checks with UBE-AZ in the memo line will go to support the important work of this ministry. If you’d like to donate online, please donate directly to UBE’s paypal account.

It’s a great way to serve, connect, and make our campus shine—come ready to work, laugh, and enjoy the satisfaction of a job well done.
March 1 - All Services
As summer approaches, your generous support of the Chapel Rock Campership Fund ensures that no child is turned away due to lack of funds. Chapel Rock is a place where campers experience the love of Jesus Christ, build lasting friendships, and strengthen their faith. With activities like team-building, adventures at the lake, and campfire laughter, it’s a place of spiritual growth and lasting memories.
We aim to fully fund five camperships through our Pass the Plate event on March 1. Donations can be made online from 2/27 - 3/1, by check (memo “Chapel Rock”), or in the offering plate. Your support will help send a child to camp this summer, creating a life-changing experience filled with faith and friendship.
Sunday, March 1, 12:10 PM - Parish Hall

The Latest From Creation Care
As you shop for gifts this December, make sustainability part of the celebration! Choose items that are locally made, reusable, responsibly sourced, or secondhand, and avoid excess packaging whenever possible. When it’s time to wrap, skip the single-use paper and get creative with reusable bags, fabric wraps, baskets, or materials you already have at home. Small choices add up—and help keep the season joyful and gentle on the planet. For thoughtful, eco-friendly gift inspiration, don’t forget to explore the Green Gift Guide!
Let’s get creative without harming the environment! There are many alternatives to using store-bought wrapping paper when preparing gifts for the holidays. Many wrapping papers on the market are not recyclable and end up in landfills. Consider using plain brown packaging paper or pages from the Sunday newspaper, which can be decorated with paint, markers, or rubber stamps. New kitchen towels also make great gift wraps—and they double as an extra gift for the recipient. Finally, gift bags and decorative boxes can be stored and reused each year for a zero-waste Christmas. We hope this gives you some inspiration!
While AI can be a useful tool, it is important to understand that it hurts our environment. Perhaps the most concerning is the large amounts of water needed to cool electrical components.
“According to the Washington Post in collaboration with the University of California, Riverside, writing a single 100-word email in Open AI's ChatGPT is the equivalent of consuming just over one bottle of water.
In a more extreme example, if 1 in 10 Americans used ChatGPT weekly for a year, it would require the amount of water equal to that used by the entirety of Rhode Island — for 1.5 days.”
Check your setting on your search engines so they aren’t programed to use AI automatically when you search. That would help conserve our precious resource.
